RULES

Since all games are self-refereed please just replay the point if there is a conflict.

Rotation

Players are not required to rotate positions during the course of play, but must serve in a consistent order.

The server is considered the back row player, and he/she is not allowed to leave the ground to attack, however they can leave the ground to block.

Setting

Hand setting - A setter may set the ball over the net (forward or backward), provided his/her shoulders are perpendicular to the path of the ball.

Side or directional sets are not permitted over the net.

Serve Receive & Defense

When a ball first crosses over the net after a serve and throughout a rally, the first hit MUST have player's hand together/touching and CANNOT open-hand set.

If the play is defensive and reactive in nature, as in the case of a hard-driven ball (spike not a serve), momentarily held or double-contacted balls are not considered faults.

You may not block or attack a serve.

A touch on a block is not considered one of the three contacts allowed per team, nor does it prevent the blocker from making immediate secondary contact with the ball, which would be considered the first of the three contacts.

Hitting

No Open Hand Tips - One-handed placement or redirection of the ball with the fingers (dink or open-hand tip) is not permitted. When contacting the ball with one hand, the ball must be cleanly hit with

  1. the heel or palm of the hand (including roll shots),
  2. straight, locked fingertips (cobra), or knurled fingers,
  3. a closed fist
  4. the back of the hand.

Players are allowed to use foot saves and it counts as a hit.

Net

Touching any part of the net is a net fault.

You may travel completely under the net, provided you make no contact with a player on the opposing team and do not interfere with the opposing team's play.
